Four Seasons Resort Nevis is sponsoring the annual Bente Weber Memorial Nevis to St. Kitts Cross channel swim held March 26, 2017. Racers start at Oualie Beach at 8:00 AM heading across the ‘Narrows’ and finishing at Cockleshell Beach on St. Kitts covering a distance of 2.5 miles. The 2017 race will feature three race classes – ‘Racing’ for individual competitors, ‘Assisted’ for those using snorkels or fins and new this year a ‘team relay’.

This year’s race welcomes world class and Olympic swimmers, including Karlyn Pipes a FINA masters world record holder and 2015 swimming hall of fame inductee. Karlyn will be joined by Keri-Anny Payne, three-time Olympian and 2-time crowned World Champion the 10 km Open Waters Swim. David Carry will also be swimming this year, he’s a 2 x Olympian for Great Britain having competed at the Summer Olympics in Beijing in 2008 and in the 2012 Olympics held in London. Rounding out the celebrity group is Gold Medalist Ashley Whitney from the United States. Ashley won her Gold Medal swimming at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia.

The cross-channel swim honors Bente Weber an early club member that passed away from a battle with cancer. This year the event will partner with the St. Kitts and Nevis Special Olympics hosting the first ever Open Water unified relay team crossing with four athletes swimming 1 km each.
